Morgan’s Tavern and Grill in New Bern

One of my favorite places to eat in New Bern, NC. is Morgan’s Tavern and Grill. Everything is fresh and delicious and you can tell it’s made with great care. The staff is attentive, personable and your food is always served hot. Though there can be a bit of a wait for a table, if you don’t arrive early enough, there’s never a long wait for your food to arrive, once it’s been ordered.

Try the Meatloaf

A favorite dish for many of Morgan’s regulars is their Meatloaf. Served on a potato cake, it’s nothing short of amazing. You’ll want to add this to your list of items to try when you visit!

Catch of the Day

Morgan’s does seafood well, and that’s saying a lot. Where most restaurants want to batter and fry everything, Morgan’s in one of the few who doesn’t. You can always find something tasty on the menu if you’re in the mood for seafood. On this night, I had the Mahi Mahi topped with Shrimp in a beautiful cream sauce with a black bean and corn relish. It was mouth-watering. I’d highly recommend it.

Kid’s Menu at Morgan’s Tavern and Grill

If you’re wondering whether or not your kids would enjoy Morgan’s Tavern and Grill, fear not. Morgan’s has a good selection of kid friendly favorites like grilled cheese, burgers, mac and cheese, chicken fingers, grilled chicken and shrimp. The portions are a good size. Your little ones won’t go home hungry.

Desserts at Morgan’s Tavern and Grill

If sweets are your thing, you’ll love the selection of desserts at Morgan’s. Kids can have some fun with the Paint a Bear rice crispy treat that comes with a paint brush, and sauces to paint with like chocolate and caramel.

During our visit we had the Key Lime Pie and the children shared a brownie with ice cream. Decadent!

About Morgan’s Tavern and Grill

In their own words: Morgan’s Tavern and Grill opened it’s doors with one goal in mind, “Great service, good food in a casual and comfortable atmosphere.” Today that goal still stands tall, as people from all areas ask. Are you fine dining? We proudly say NO, we are every day dining. We believe in good food at sensible prices. We believe in sincere service because as our guest it is our responsibility to ensure every experience is fun and enjoyable. This building has stood for over 100 years. In 1912 this was the home for the New Bern Garage Company. It is an example of what hard work can accomplish, from its 16-22 inch thick walls to the original roof trusses and ceiling joists that still stand today. We believe that all you need is a dream and hard work and you can do any thing. This is our dream and we are proud to serve you and our community.

The Crab Shack Serves Fresh Seafood and Southern Hospitality Daily

Love fresh seafood? Then the Crab Shack in Salter Path is one place you’ll want to check out. We stopped in for a celebratory seafood dinner and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. In fact, Kenn enjoyed it so much, he decided to vlog about it below.

Located on the island in Salter Path, on the sound side of highway 58, the Crab Shack restaurant serves up fresh seafood and southern hospitality daily. In fact, when you visit you can see their fishing boats docked right outside. The kids were delighted to see a real, working fishing boat, right on the water and close enough to touch.

Fresh Seafood on the Menu

The food was delicious. During our last visit we had clam strips, scallops, shrimp, flounder, and the kids had chicken tenders – some of which you can see featured in the video above. In addition to the wide variety of seafood available, there’s also traditional landlubber fare like burgers, barbecue, chicken and steak. But don’t take my word for it, check out The Crab Shack menu and see if there’s anything on it that appeals to your tastebuds.

We Found Great Pizza on Emerald Isle

Sausage Pizza

Are you a pizza lover? One of the things we’ve missed about our hometown was the pizza. Delicious, mouth-watering, New York style Pizza is something we’d grown accustomed to, but have always had a hard time finding when we’ve traveled. Now that we’re residents of East Coast NC, we’ve been hunting for really good pizza.

Pleasantly Surprised

We’d heard about Circle Pizza and Subs in Emerald Isle but had never stopped in so we thought we’d give it a try last weekend.  Circle Pizza and Subs is a nice, casual dining restaurant where you can eat in or take out. We decided to eat-in and though we only wanted to grab a slice and head off on our next adventure, we weren’t too disappointed to learn that pizza by the slice wasn’t an option. Instead, we opted to grab a table and get a large, sausage pizza.

It looked so good that I didn’t have an opportunity to snap a photo before everyone started to digging in. It really was delicious! Plenty of sausage, cheese and just the right amount of sauce. Personally, I like a crispier crust and in all honesty, I didn’t explore the option to request that when I ordered so that’s my fault. Overall, it was a really, really good! So good, we only had two slices left, and took those home in a doggy bag.  Yum!

Subs, Sandwiches and More

I don’t know about your kids by mine can be picky at times. The nice thing about this restaurant is that there are plenty of option. In fact, you can get traditional subs here (meatball, Philly cheese-steak, etc.) as well as other types of sandwiches (grilled cheese, burgers, BLTs, etc.) pasta and more. Side orders include tasty french fries, onion rings, garlic bread and so much more. See the full menu.

They offer free deliver with a minimum order of $15.oo. What’s not to love?
